Vitamin Test – Verisana Lab

In the U.S., 35% of adults in the US are vitamin D deficient, and up to 20% of the population do not reach the recommended intake of vitamin B9 and B12. The body needs these vitamins for various processes, for example for nerve function and cell division. Therefore, deficiency symptoms affect many areas of the body. Our Vitamin Test measures the levels of these 3 essential vitamins.

What is tested?
Vitamin B12 is essential for breaking down individual fatty acids for blood formation, nerve functioning and cell division. For this reason, a vitamin B12 deficiency affects different parts of the body, such as, for example, the eyes, nerves, muscles and also, the hair.
Vitamin B9 (folate) is important for many metabolic processes such as building proteins and DNA. Therefore, folate is also essential for cell division. Pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and smokers in particular suffer from a folate deficiency more often than average.
Vitamin D plays an important role in bone mineralization by supporting the intake of calcium from the intestines and installation into the bones. Moreover, Vitamin D is involved in important metabolic processes and in the formation of proteins. People who spend little time outdoors have a higher risk for vitamin D deficiency. This especially includes people who are chronically ill, older, or in need of care.

What symptoms can be caused by a vitamin deficiency?
Symptoms include tiredness, lack of concentration, poor memory, hair loss, degeneration of the optic nerve, depressed mood or muscle weakness.
Various factors can increase the risk of vitamin deficiency:
Increased need, impaired absorption of vitamins in the intestine, vegetarianism/veganism or taking certain medications.

What are the advantages of a home self-test?
Simple and convenient: With a self-test, you can conveniently perform the test from the comfort of your home without having to visit a doctor. This saves time and effort, especially for individuals with a busy lifestyle or limited mobility.
Discreet process: No questions or stares. Some people prefer to conduct their tests in a private setting, particularly when it comes to hormonal questions or sensitive health issues. With a self-test, you can maintain your privacy and feel secure in your own familiar environment.
You’re in control: You decide what to test and receive your own results. Self-tests provide you with the opportunity to actively participate in your healthcare.
Easy sample collection: You collect the samples in a relaxed environment familiar to you. Ideal for patients with anxiety.
Flexible sample collection: Around the clock. ou don’t have to wait for a doctor’s appointment or stand in line at a laboratory. You collect the sample when it’s most convenient for you.

What does the report contain and what happens next?
Your report includes your Vitamin D, B9 and B12 levels and information on whether they are within the normal range, too high, or too low (compared to the respective reference range for your age group). You can then discuss these results with your doctor or practitioner, who can advise you on the next steps and various treatment options.
